Svandís Svavarsdóttir was born on August 24, 1964. Her husband is Torfi Hjartarson, Lecturer. They have four children.

BA degree in Icelandic and General Linguistics from the University of Iceland in 1989.
MA study in Icelandic Grammar 1989-1993.
