Statement by Iceland

President,

We thank the core group for presenting draft resolution L.9 on Youth and Human Rights.

Iceland supports the resolution’s focus on addressing barriers that can affect the full and equal enjoyment of human rights by young people.

The resolution recognizes the important role young people can play in promoting peace and security, sustainable development and human rights. It also highlights the importance of their full, effective and meaningful participation in decision-making processes.

Iceland further appreciates the attention given in the text to the mental health and well-being of young people, including access to mental health and psychosocial support, as well as the recognition that socioeconomic conditions, including the cost of living, housing and food insecurity, can affect young people’s well-being.

As such, Iceland joins consensus on draft resolution L.9.
